Ceramic Pitchers
This semester I took Ceramics II in which we learned to throw on the wheel. It was not required for graduation in the Art Education department, but I felt that it was important to take because ceramics can be either a sculptural or functional art. I am very interested in ceramics and hope to continue to create works in this medium after college. I enjoy ceramics because there is a mixture of functionality and creativity. I think that it is important for students to learn the basics of all mediums, and that is why I chose to take this course. The wheel can be challenging when you are first learning to throw, and continues to be difficult even after you have developed a skill at it. However, this is the basis of this type of art and so I wanted to be able to learn in order to teach my future students. The pitchers and bowls (in post about "Bowls with Spoon Rests") displayed are just a few of the pieces that I created through the course of this semester. The other pieces are currently in a glaze firing, and will be posted soon.
